How to Use

Using Units

• Use EM for Padding, Margin, Width, Height, Transforms, & Font Sizes
• Use PX only for things that won't break the design if they don't scale such as border widths & drop-shadow distances
• Use % (optional) for columns inside containers

Scaling

• On tablet and below, change the body font size to PX or higher VW number
• On desktop, the design will scale up seamlessly. It will stop scaling when it reaches the max width of 1440px.

Come in, hang out and have some fun! For anyone who isn’t sure what we are on about, Drop In is essentially our version of a youth club. Drop In runs every week and is a great way of meeting new friends and finding new passions… and it is totally free! Drop In is your space. Whether you want to chill and chat with your friends, play computer games or do something more active or creative, we aim to provide a space for you to just be you. Drop In takes place in our youth hall which has everything you need. There are comfy sofas, games, computers, pool, table tennis, air hockey, and sometimes you can even use our recording studio. Our team of youth workers are there to support you, whether you are in the mood for a quiet bit of nail painting or if you want help arranging a massive game of dodgeball! And if it hasn’t been your day, our team are also trained and equipped to talk you through any issues, questions, challenges or worries you might be facing.

We see a future in which young people are change makers, with clear confident voices that are heard above the noise. A future in which any young person from any background can grow and flourish to become their best selves. In that future they exercise both their rights and responsibilities and invest their lives in building strong communities. We walk together with young people as trusted partners who support, guide, inspire and empower them with that future in mind. We are the Mix.

What’s a Rich Text element?

This is a subheading and where it goes in the document flow

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content. Thrive at The Mix is a team of qualified teachers, youth workers and volunteers. We believe that young people need to believe in themselves to thrive in life and learning, and that is our starting point. We want to provide young people with the opportunity to get to know who they really are and build on their uniqueness from there. We know that once they start to develop that confidence, they will thrive in becoming the best version of themselves. We focus on leading young people to develop positive thinking, to build resilience, grow perseverance, develop character and pursue excellence.

Within our team, we have experienced youth workers, curriculum experts, SEN experience and SEMH specialists to support students in all their needs.

We are able to offer a different learning environment from mainstream for those who need it. We have bespoke learning spaces as part of The Mix, as well as all the facilities on hand that The Mix and local community have to offer. Where we are purposeful in the teaching of character education, we can empower young people who are resilient and will bring hope and leadership to their lives and others.

Our Alternative Provision programme at
The Mix consists of:

SELF-LEADERSHIP training:

Our self-leadership programme underpins everything we do at Thrive and focusses on moving on from poverty mindsets and stuck thinking to grow self-leadership and includes positive thinking, building resilience, growing perseverance, developing character and pursuing excellence.

Mentoring and coaching
1:1 support in overcoming barriers through empowering young people to know who they are and develop understanding, skills and strategies to thrive.

EMPLOYABILITY
PROGRESSION
Tuesdays:

Geared towards students who have already completed a vocational course with us, our new programme is aimed at supporting students to be ready for the world of work. We will support students to grow their confidence and be empowered to lead themselves through a programme based around business enterprise projects, youth social action and supported work placements, to develop their CVs and grow their employability.

VOCATIONAL LEARNING Wednesdays & Thursdays

We create vocational based projects based around the needs and interests of our students, working alongside local businesses.

These can include:
• Commercial design and branding.
• Design and carpentry.
• Nature and environmental projects.
• Professional photography and cinematography.
• Nutrition and healthy lifestyles programme.
• Sport, physical fitness and Mixed Martial Arts training.
• Therapeutic art and creative design.
• Bespoke business and enterprise projects and many more.

ACADEMIC LEARNING Fridays

Our focus on a Friday is to support students to develop their skills and confidence in GCSE curriculum in maths and English. Any or all of the following can be built into a student’s personalised learning timetable.

• Maths and English tuition – at KS3, GCSE and/or functional skills.
• Areas of vocational and project based learning from our wider curriculum.
• Personal Careers Information Advice and Guidance including 1:1 support from the Together Project.

Students are catered for based on their learning needs and interests, in liaison with their school, covering content from any exam syllabus.

HOW WE WORK
We offer full day placements for students in Years 7-11, usually for one day a week for a full academic year. Students are referred to Thrive by their mainstream school, who book placements with us in advance.

OUR PARTNERS

We enjoy working alongside our local secondary schools and teams within the Local Authority. We are always keen to expand our provision to meet more needs. We have been Quality Assured by Suffolk County Council who monitor our practice and procedures and have taken part in school’s OFSTED inspections. All our staff are fully safeguarding trained and DBS checked.

We love working with local businesses, who volunteer their time to support our young people. Their amazing generosity enables us to offer such a diverse range of opportunities to broaden our young people’s experiences and explore the world of work. We have projects working alongside all businesses at The Mix as well as many local businesses and charities including The Men’s Shed, Red Gables, Green Light Trust and Scorpion Martial Arts Academy.
